A new colour center is observed by ESR in low temperature γ‐irradiated and then heat treated LiF crystals which are heavily neutron irradiated previously. From the analysis of the ESR spectra this center is assigned to an asymmetric interstitial fluorine atom associated with a lattice fluoride ion. This center lies in one of the (110) planes and its molecular axis makes an angle of 23° with the [110] axis. The ESR parameters are determined by fitting the calculated resonance fields to the experimental ones.
