A nearest‐neighbour defect model is employed to calculate the local density of states of substitutional impurities K + and Br − in RbCl and Rb + and Cl − in KBr. A detailed investigation of resonance condition is made and possible resonance modes are identified. Contrary to earlier assumption of gap modes in all the systems, resonance modes are identified except in KBr:Rb + in which a gap mode is found.
