Faraday rotation and magnetooptical polar Kerr effect are studied in γ‐Ln 2 S 3 crystals. The peculiarities of the magnetooptical spectra in Ln 2 S 3 are interpreted on the basis of the regularities of f–f and f–d transitions in free Ln 3+ ions taking into account the mixing of the excited localized and band states.
