Free‐carrier absorption for intervalley phonon scattering

The frequency dependence of the free‐carrier absorption coefficient in multivalley semiconductors is calculated for intervalley deformation potential scattering between parabolic M 0 and saddle M 1 points. The methods of group theory are used to summarize the contributions of all the equivalent valleys to the absorption coefficient for crystals of arbitrary symmetry.
