The rate dependence is investigated of activation and tunnel electron transfer between donor and acceptor separated by a chain of finite length on the energy and the relaxation characteristics of donor, chain, and acceptor. The chain length effect is shown to be especially pronounced at chain lengths not exceeding 5 to 7 links.
