By measuring the dynamical shift of interference fringes in epitaxial layers of CuCl, using picosecond “pump and test” experiments, the temporal evolution of the nonlinear refractive index of this compound at low temperatures is obtained. This time behaviour analysed at different photon energies of the test beam is shown to depend on the intensity and photon energy of the pump beam. This observed index change is closely related to the dynamics of the polaritons created by the pump beam.
