A new type of the cavityless bistability is proposed where the nonlinear medium does not show intrinsic bistability under action of a continuous input signal but shows bistability under action of a time‐dependent input signal. A strict criterion for the observation of such a bistability is given. It depends on the shape of the temporal response of the nonlinear medium under action of the isolated rectangular input pulse.
