Thermoluminescence (TL) of RbCl:Gd 2+ is discussed. Z 1 centres are formed even in the irradiation process. Hydroxyl ion related centres are observed in the optical absorption. The TL process is identified to be due to the thermal release of F‐electrons and their subsequent recombination with the hole centres.
