Recombination‐induced heating of a gas of interacting excitons is investigated in ZnTe single crystals at a bath temperature of 80 K. The energy transfer in the system of self‐heated excitons and of nonequilibrium optical and acoustic phonons is considered. The density, the constant of bimolecular recombination, and the instantaneous lifetime of excitons in highly excited ZnTe crystal are found using the obtained experimental evidence of the effective temperature of excitons and the heat effect of the inelastic exciton–exciton collisions.
