Torque magnetometer measurements show that the magnetic moment of mica sheets with Cr films 0.3 to 28 nm thick is smaller than the magnetic moment of the mica sheet at room temperature. This may mean that the average susceptibilities of the Cr films are negative, and of the order of −10 −3 to −10 −4 , or that small magnetic moments form perpendicular to the plane of the Cr film. Both explanations cannot be reconciled with accepted models of the magnetic structure of chromium.
