In a nonperturbative way, using the Bosonization technique the behaviour of longitudinal and transverse SDW's in a random field of impurities is studied. It is shown that magnetic as well as nonmagnetic species can pin SDW's. However, the pinning strength of nonmagnetic impurities is found to be essentially reduced compared to the CDW pinning. In contrast to this, locally strong pinning is expected to appear at kinks in the spin‐density phase. Thus, continuously changing the kink density by a magnetic field applied parallel to the easiest axis a significant enhancement of the pinning should be obtained when the period of kink lattice is commensurate with 2 k F , i.e., with the period of the superstructure.
