The complete set of polar optic phonon modes of an infinite superlattice is considered within the macroscopic theory. Eigenfunctions are given for confined bulk modes as well as interface modes. Interface modes arise from forbidden longitudinal and p‐transverse confined bulk modes. It is shown that the totality of confined bulk and interface modes form a complete orthonormalized set of basis functions.
