The properties of guided‐wave polaritons of E‐ and H‐types are studied both, theoretically and experimentally. It is shown, that the interaction of an electromagnetic wave with film and substrate lattice oscillations changes the field spatial structure, ranges of existence, and dispersion dependences of surface excitations, i.e. of optical guided wave modes. Expressions describing the frequency dependences of attenuation and absorption factors of guided wave polaritons are received. It is shown that the course of these dependences is determined by peculiarities of the energy distribution between the system layers.
