The recoilless absorption probability f ′ and the probability f ″ of recoilless reemission after absorption are measured for four Fe‐containing compounds. It is established that f ″ > f ′. This discrepancy has already been observed for 119 Sn. The results obtained disagree with the commonly accepted assumption that f ′ and f ″ are equal. The interpretation of this inequality is made in terms of two relaxation models.
