A systematic study of the interaction of surface plasmons with surface optical phonons is made for III–V group polar semiconductors to find the factors which can influence the coupling between the two modes of vibrations. It is found that the extent of coupling depends upon the Szigeti effective charge or the ionicity of the compound.
