The kinetics of the UV luminescence from PbCl 2 crystals are measured from 3.8 to 25 K. Two components in UV luminescence are found. The form of the long time component of the UV luminescence decay curve is thoroughly investigated and compared with theoretical predictions. A model based upon exciton—exciton annihilation leading to free electron—hole pairs is used to describe the decay at temperatures above 15 K.
