It is shown that the thermal expansion effect in the absorption band shift of the F‐center in alkali halides is more active than the electron lattice interaction effect. This statement is based on the analysis of detailed experimental data concerning the changes in lattice parameter as a function of temperature. The results substantially confirm those obtained in the past (but disregarded in literature) by Jacobs as well as by Brothers and Lynch.
