It is shown that the quasi elastic model of Maxwell's equations according to MacCullagh‐Sommerfeld can be defined by a non‐covariant gauge for the four potential A μ . The quasi elastic displacement vector s then is described by the vector potential A . Lorentz invariance of the mechanical model depends on the gauge invariance of the physically measurable quantities. A theoretical relation to relativistic kink equation can be seen.
