Magnetic measurements of (Y 1− x Gd x ) 2 Co 17 oriented powder samples versus temperature in the 78 to 300 K range are made, and the K 1 and K 2 values are calculated. To explain the differences of the anisotropy energy of Y 2 Co 17 and Gd 2 Co 17 compounds, the dipolar interactions of Gd moments are analysed. The values of the anisotropy energy calculated from dipolar interactions are in very good agreement with experimental values.
