The magnetization versus field curves of GaMo 4 X 8 (X = S, Se) show magnetic field induced transitions at 5 and 1 kOe at 4.2 K, respectively. The critical fields at different temperatures are obtained from differential susceptibility measurements. Field cooled specimens are also investigated. A provisional magnetic phase diagram is constructred. The transition is ascribed to crystal anisotropy effects.
