The X‐ray K‐absorption edge of Cu in chalcopyrite mineral is investigated using a 40 cm Cauchois‐type bent crystal X‐ray spectrograph. The study confirms the electronic configuration of chalcopyrite mineral as Cu 1+ Fe 3+ S 2 2− . The near‐edge structures (XANES) B and C observed in the K‐absorption edge of Cu in the mineral are explained on the basis of molecular orbital theory and band structure.
