The phonon theory for inhomogeneous thin films with fluctuation of equilibrium position is developed in the anharmonic approximation. The analytical relations describing the stochastic forces as a term of the system memory with fluctuating parameter, δ, the quasi‐exponential autocorrelation functions, and the asymptotic behaviour of the system at low temperatures are obtained. The present results concern the surface as well as the bulk, so that the spatial distribution of phonon excitations in the system with and without fluctuations, in dependence of the initial conditions, can be discussed. Moreover, some conclusions on the local and global melting points in thin films are presented.
