The K‐absorption spectra of arsenic in the minerals orpiment, realger, smaltite, and arsenopyrite are investigated using a Cauchois‐type bent‐crystal X‐ray spectrograph. The chemical shift of the edges is determined and correlated with the partial charge, calculated using Sanderson's method. A theoretical justification is given for the relation observed between the shift and partial charge.
