An investigation is made of two 2‐D electron systems, separated spatially but coupled by Coulomb interaction. The acoustic and the optical plasma modes are studied using coupled Boltzmann equations. An effective exchange potential calculated using the formalism of Kohn and Sham is included. The dispersion relation is obtained numerically for different densities and separations.
