The low temperature specific heat of RuO 2 single crystals is investigated up to a Nb content of x = 4.5 at% by means of the microcalorimetric ac method. The electronic part of the specific heat gives information about the alteration of the density of states at the Fermi energy D (ε F ) in dependence on the Nb content. The density of states at the Fermi energy of the undoped sample is D (ε F ) = 30.0 (cell spin Ryd) −1 . The observed increase of D (ε F ) up to a Nb content of 4.5 at% is smaller than 6%. It is checked, whether a rigid band model explains the observed results. Characteristic changes in the phonon contribution of the specific heat will be discussed, too.
