The theoretical expressions for the fourth order elastic (FOE) constants of the primitive lattices are derived. First the equation of wave propagation in a homogeneously strained medium is obtained and then it is compared with the equation derived from the macroscopic theory of elasticity which yields the required relations for (FOE) constants and the Kun‐Huang relation among the fourth order coupling parameters.
