The ESR spectra of isolated Mn 2+ centers in NaCl and KCl single crystals, formed by a high uniaxial stress, are observed at room temperature. The formation mechanism of these impurity centers with cubic symmetry is discussed. From the analysis of the spectra it is concluded that these Mn 2+ centers are identical with centers, formed by heating unstressed NaCl:Mn 2+ and KCl:Mn 2+ . Similarities and differences with uniaxially stressed alkali chlorides, doped with V 2+ ions, are also analysed.
