Optical Anisotropy and Dichroism of A‐Centres in NaCl and KCl Single Crystals Irradiated with X‐Rays under DC Fields

The optical absorption characteristics of the Petroff A‐band reported in our earlier work on NaCl and KCl single crystals X‐ray irradiated under dc fields, are studied in greater detail using polarized light. The results seem to indicate that the A‐centres exhibit anisotropic and dichroic behaviour. A possible explanation of the results is attempted.
