The effects of a uniaxial stress on the first‐order Raman spectrum of GaAs are reported. The shifts of the long‐wavelength optical phonon frequencies and splittings of their degeneracies are obtained with improved experimental accuracy. Phonon deformation potentials and other crystal parameters are established and compared with values previously published.
