A simple model for the magnetic field dependence of the spin polarization of the F center is developed, in which the spin mixing due to the hyperfine interaction both in the ground state and in the relaxed excited state is taken into account. It is shown that the spin mixing due to the hyperfine interaction plays an essential role in the interpretation of the spin polarization at low fields less than 0.5 T. Quantitative fitting of the experimental data of the magnetic field dependence of the spin polarization is performed for KBr and RbBr.
