Annihilation characteristics of positrons in ultrafine particles of silver and gold are studied by the dual parameter measurements between the positron age and the momentum of annihilating pairs. The momentum dependence of the mean lifetime in the fine particles examined shows a maximum at zero momentum and minima at intermediate values of the momentum. This momentum dependence can be attributed to the positronium formation and the conversion of ortho‐positronium at the surfaces.
