An experimental and theoretical study is made of the reflection spectra of surface excitons and exciton–impurity complexes. The conditions for the localization of the excitons near the CdS surface are fulfilled experimentally by low‐energy argon ion bombardment ( E ⪅ 1 keV). The binding energy of the surface excitons at impurities of small effective charges is calculated theoretically. It is shown that the binding of the surface excitons at an impurity center is possible both, for positive and negative effective charges. Satisfactory agreement is observed between the theoretical calculation of the reflection spectrum within the frequency range of the surface excitons and the experimental data for Ar‐ion bombarded CdS surface.
