XPS spectra of the 3s, 2p, and 3p levels of the transition‐metalions in the chlorides and the bromides of 3d transition metals as well as an oxide and a sulfide are studied. The second and third moments of the 2p and 3p spectra in the chlorides and the bromides are compared with the values calculated by Satoko and Sugano. The avilability of the moments of the spectra in the analysis of core‐level lines is indicated.
