Abstract Thermodynamics of deformable solids is first discussed to derive fundamental equations by taking into account the clear difference between elastic and plastic deformation. The theory is applied to discuss the thermodynamics of stress‐induced first‐order solid—solid phase transformations and the general form of the Clausius‐Clapeyron equation is derived.
