The concept of an asymptotic medium with a superimposed inhomogeneity shell about the source point is employed as an interpretation scheme for multiple‐scattering approximations to the averaged Green function. Including third‐order scattering (finite‐ranged pair correlation), analytical expressions are obtained for the index of refraction of the asymptotic medium and the reflection and transmission coefficients of the inhomogeneity shell as well as for the electronic density of states.
