The charge transfer spectra of Ni impurity in CdSe are reported and discussed. It is shown that they consist of the photoionization spectrum of the donor Ni 2+ (d 8 ) and the spectrum connected with the transition of an electron from the valence band to the Ni in result of which the Ni 1+ (d 9 ) charge state is created. An analysis of the charge transfer spectra allows to determine the N 2+ (d 8 ) donor level at 0.32 eV and the Ni 1+ (d 9 ) acceptor level at 1.81 eV above the top of the valence band. These results and other transition metal levels established previously in CdSe allows to discuss chemical trends in their position within the gap.
