X‐band ESR spectra are examined during the Li intercalation process of VSe 2 in n‐butyllithium solution. The formation of V 2+ ions at an early stage of reaction and their subsequent partial disappearance are ascertained in the case of solutions where Li contents are totally deficient for the production of Li 2 VSe 2 . The temperature‐dependence of the width of V 2+ ESR lines exhibits a broad minimum around 150 K. This is interpreted in terms of effects of the interaction of V 2+ ions with other vanadium ions in some different valence states.
