A summary is given of the texture analysis from the elements to the solution of its fundamental problem. The crystal symmetry of the orientation and the unreduced pole‐figure is examined. The division of the orientation space is determined from the division of the pole‐figures and vice versa. The general relation for reproduction of the orientation distribution function from pole‐figure data is obtained with the help of probability theory. The applicability of the approximative formulae is analysed.
