The possibility of optical magnetization of crystals by excitation of circular optical vibrations is considered. An expression for the g ‐factor of this sort of vibrations is derived for a crystal of rocksalt structure. Directions allowed for circular phonons in three‐dimensional lattices are studied, and the magnetization of an ionic crystal caused by circular resonance light wave is estimated using the classical approach and a point ion lattice model. A quantum approach to the problem is discussed, and creation and destruction operators for circular phonons are written.
