For analysing the role played by the Van der‐Waals' forces in the phonon dispersion of metals, four different models are developed for the face‐centered configuration. It is found that these forces enhance the efficacy of the models. The model parameters, calculated by the knowledge of the measured frequency, are free from the errors originating from the variation of elastic constants with temperature and the nature of the forces dominant in elastic behaviour. The least attended metal, face centered cubic cobalt, is chosen for the present analysis.
