The temperature dependence of the A‐absorption band of Tl + centers in NaCl, KCl, KBr, and KI and the stress induced linear dichroism (SLD) are investigated in the region between 4 and 300 K. Moment analysis enables to determine the effective dynamical coupling constants corresponding to the |A〈‐state. The effective phonon frequencies show decreasing values for increasing halogen mass. It turns out that the theory of linear electron—phonon coupling is correct for temperatures up to 200 K in NaCl: Tl + , and KCl:Tl + , and up to 100 K in KBr:Tl + and KI:Tl + .
