The incommensurate‐commensurate transition in K 2 SeO 4 ‐type crystals is studied on the base of a Landau free energy. The phase modulation‐only approximation is modified to take account of the effect of the amplitude modulation partially but in a consistent way. The soliton density decreases continuously with a logarithmic law near the lock‐in temperature. It is also shown that the specific heat and the dielectric susceptibility diverge at the transition point.
