A TSD band below LNT attributed to the AsO   2 −centre is observed in several alkali halide crystals. In KI:AsO   2 −by annealing at 150 °C the 60 K band can be decreased while a 19 K band appears. NaI:AsO   2 −has a band at 11 K. Measured dipole moments of the AsO   2 −centre are between 0.9 and 1.2 e Å depending on the off‐centre displacement of the ionic charge.
