The annihilation parameter changes as function of x and y are studied for TiH x and Ti 1− y V y H x systems. The interpretation of the results is based upon s‐ and d‐like electron number changes. The conclusions, being in agreement with the band structure calculation results, confirm the uselessness of the rigid band approximation. The Jahn‐Teller effect, suggested by other authors as the γ → δ transition mechanism, finds its justification in the light of the present results, too. Especially interesting seems to be the way in which s‐ and d‐bands are occupied for different x in the cubic phase.
