The satellite structure in the X‐ray photoelectron spectra of Zn(II) halides and ZnO is examined, particular attention being paid to the 3p, 3s metal subshells and the valence region. The nature of the phenomena giving rise to these satellites and their relative importance in each spectral region, is discussed with reference to known theoretical results.
