The infrared spectra of bulk and thin‐film CeO 2 are measured at various conditions by reflection, transmission, and thermal‐emission methods. The reststrahlen reflectivity spectra of bulk CeO 2 are analyzed by means of a two‐oscillator dispersion model, and the dielectric properties and the lattice vibrational properties of CeO 2 are discussed. The virtual mode (polariton) spectra of the thin‐film CeO 2 are analyzed by means of the virtual mode theory of the anharmonic ionic crystal slab.
