Explicit calculations are presented for the effective interactions in the homogeneous electron gas between two test charges, between an electron and a test charge, and between two electrons. The calculations are performed in the local approximation using existing theories for treating dynamical exchange effects in the dielectric response. The relation between these different approaches is discussed. The most remarkable result is that two recent dynamical local‐field corrections in the static limit give rise to an attractive effective electron–electron potential near q = 2 k F , without the intervention of phonons.
