Formulae for the reflectivity of uniaxial antiferromagnetic and ferrimagnetic crystals are derived for normal incidence parallel to the optical axis. The formulae show that in general the reflected waves are elliptically polarized. In particular, they can be used to fix the zeros of the off‐diagonal elements of the permeability tensor. Besides, the formulae are suitable to determine the properties of magnons from reflectivity spectra of uniaxial antiferromagnetic and ferrimagnetic crystals.
