Abstract Using the volume dependence of the mean‐square displacement, the pressure effect on the melting temperature of Si and Ge is studied by Lindeman's melting law. The melting curve obtained decreases as function of the compressed volume, and is qualitatively in agreement with the observed tendency for Si and Ge.
