It is shown that from the changes of the position and intensity of the L spectra of cobalt and aluminium and the N IV, V spectra of dysprosium in DyCo 2 ‐DyAl 2 alloys the following conclusions result: (1) cobalt is an acceptor of 3d electrons in the investigated compounds in agreement with the results of magnetic measurements, (2) the presence of the cobalt atoms does not change the character of the aluminium‐dysprosium bond, (3) on the high energy side of the Dy N IV, V spectrum the positive shift towards higher energy of the observed maxima which are connected with 4f → 4d transitions suggests a different band structure of DyAl 2 in comparison to pure Dy.
